Small Group Pompeii And Herculaneum Ancient Cities From Salerno
Uncover the secrets of ancient Rome on a full-day shore excursion from Salerno. This expertly-guided tour takes you through two of Italy's most extraordinary archaeological sites, both frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Your experience begins at the Port of Salerno, a lively cruise hub on the Amalfi Coast known for its easy access to southern Italy's most iconic historical destinations. After a convenient morning departure, travel in a comfortable air conditioned vehicle to Pompeii, where your licensed guide will lead you through one of the world's most famous archaeological sites. Before entering, enjoy a brief stop at a traditional cameo workshop, where you can observe artisans crafting intricate designs by hand and take advantage of a short break.
Once inside Pompeii, walk along ancient streets, and explore remarkably preserved landmarks, including temples, villas, markets, baths, theaters, and the Forum. Your guide will share engaging insights into daily Roman life, architecture, and the dramatic story of the city's destruction and preservation. The route may vary slightly to ensure the best experience, but key highlights are always included.
In the afternoon, continue to Herculaneum, a lesser known but incredibly well-preserved Roman town. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was buried under volcanic mud, allowing buildings, wooden elements, frescoes, and everyday objects to remain in exceptional condition. This offers a more detailed and intimate glimpse into ancient life, making it a highlight for history enthusiasts.
This Salerno shore excursion is carefully scheduled and includes round trip transportation, a professional guide, and expert commentary throughout. It is the perfect way to experience Pompeii and Herculaneum in one seamless and enriching day.
Guests with specific mobility needs are advised to inform us of special requests at the time of booking so we can provide the most accurate guidance.
This tour includes a fair amount of walking, and guests must be able to walk on mixed terrain, including paved and unpaved cobblestone pathways, steps, stairs, ancient stone roads, and flat, dirt surfaces. Walking is primarily outdoors with limited shade. Guests must also be able to get in and out of the vehicle independently. Therefore, this tour is not recommended for travelers with significant mobility limitations.
Restrooms are available before entering the Pompeii archaeological site.
Children 0-4 years may join the tour at no cost.
Each guest is required to carry a copy of his/her passport or a picture ID during the tour.
Please note: This tour operates rain or shine. On days when the site may be overcrowded, the tour operator may modify the itinerary to provide a better experience for the group. In such cases, an alternative site of equal historical significance with an active archaeological area will be visited instead. Although infrequent, during low season, or periods where the group size falls below 6 guests, a live guide may be replaced by an audio guide.
